Search engine
A Web search engine is a tool designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are usually presented in a list and are commonly called hits. The iInformation may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in newsbooks, databases, or open directories.

For example 1 :
Yahoo Search engine - http://hk.yahoo.com/
You can found the yahoo search engine in the top and middle part of the first page. But for the yahoo search engine, you only can search which’s registered.

For example 2 :
Google Search Engine - http://www.google.com.hk/
It is the most used engine on the web. Google receives several hundred million queries each day through its various services.

the keyword is DICOTA, the result it show many different link which include the "DICOTA" keyword.


Online partnerships or affiliate marketing
Affiliate marketing is an Internet-based marketing practice in which a business rewards one or more affiliates for each visitor or customer brought about by the affiliate's marketing efforts.
Affiliate marketing is also the name of the industry where a number of different types of companies and individuals are performing this form of Internet marketing, including affiliate networks, affiliate management companies, and in-house affiliate managers, specialized third party vendors, and various types of affiliates/publishers who promote the products and services of their partners.

Which is an electronic commerce company specializing in footwear and is currently based in Henderson.

For Example 2:
ClickBank - http://www.clickbank.com/index.html
It is the online retail outlet for 10,000 digital product publishers and their 100,000 active affiliates.


RSS feeds
RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works—such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format . An RSS document includes full or summarized text, plus metadata such as publishing dates and authorship. Web feeds benefit publishers by letting them syndicate content automatically. They benefit readers who want to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place

It is a website which collect all different update information you want.

For Example 2:
HK Gov RSS - http://www.gov.hk/tc/about/rss.htm
It’s include hk news, government news, economic news, HK policy news…..etc.


Social networking
A social network is a social structure made of nodes (which are generally individuals or organizations) that are tied by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as values, visions, ideas, financial exchange, friendship, sexual relationships, kinship, dislike, conflict or trade.

For example 1:
Yahoo 友綠人 - http://hk.personals.yahoo.com/
It is the one biggest social networking in Hong Kong. You can input your personal information and photo on the website, and you can search, match friend though the website.

For example 2:
Facebook – http://www.facebook.com/
Its free-access social networking website that is operated and privately owned by Facebook. Users can join networks organized by city, workplace, school, and region to connect and interact with other people. People can also add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to notify friends about themselves.


Gadgets
A gadget is a small technological object (such as a device or an appliance) that has a particular function, but is often thought of as a novelty. Gadgets are invariably considered to be more unusually or cleverly designed than normal technological objects at the time of their invention. Gadgets are sometimes also referred to as gizmos.

For example 1:
Vista Gadgets - http://www.gadgetsforvista.net/
It’s a small function on your window vista of side bar. You can install those gadgets, it will show on you desktop.

For example 2:
Google Gadgets - http://www.google.com/ig/directory?synd=open
You can add those small object on your Google home page.

  1. Noted your examples ! They are all fine although some details may be added for the following:

    1) Search engine - give an example of a keyword that returns sponsored text ads related to it, and describe the company that sponsored the ad.

    2) Social networking - describe a specific example of a business that promotes itself thru Facebook or any other social network.

    3) Gadget - the definition of gadget is a general description which is not related to Internet Marketing. Gadgets in Internet Marketing are mini-applications that users can embed in their blog, profile page, customized portal (e.g. my.yahoo.com) or which can be downloaded to their PC desktop. Companies offer gadgets for branding purposes and also to encourage people to interact with their web site thru a small panel on another page (e.g. people can use HSBC's Mortgage Calculator gadget right from their own Yahoo portal page).
